An investigation into Midwestern modernism and the merging of both an interest in volume making with the articulation of the exposed structural system.
The 4400 sf home has two centers: the kitchen/laboratory where much experimentation takes place and the listening room, where the owner’s love of classical music takes place. The listening room’s proportions and materials were established by a leading acoustician. This volume was then set into the house and raised so that its ceiling would align with the second floor’s ceiling. The remaining parts of the program include a master suite that is located on the main floor and two additional bedrooms and baths on the upper floor.
