In responding to my clients desire for metal faced cabinets, we elected to make the entire face out of 1/4" cold rolled steel with a black oxide finish. No veneer- pure steel!
The process was involved and utilized the services of many different metal fabricators. Starting with 3/8" plate that was rough cut, we had them Blanchard machined to a shade above 1/4" in thickness. Then off to the machine shop for sizing, chamfering and blind drilling and tapping. Then back to the grinding service for final Madison grinding to a near mirror finish. A quick trip to Grand Rapids for a pass through a Time-Saver machine with a medium Scotch-Brite belt to unify the metal texture. Then, off to Cleveland Black Oxide for its subtle black finish. The final step was to transport the panels to Vogue Cabinetry for de-greasing, hand sanding/polishing and clear coating!
A gorgeous and very subtle final product that we discovered and mastered!
